Artist Statement

As a New Yorker, I am surrounded by the constant remaking of the cityscape.  A nearby construction site becomes a metaphor for the regeneration and reinvention of urban space and I approach it with reference to ancient archeological sites and the simple quiet found there.  The powerful geometry of the modern structure, tools and equipment is juxtaposed with the decaying facades of surrounding buildings.  Together, old and new mark the passage of time and time’s promise.  Their coexistence links us to the inertia of change.  Through my eye today’s contemporary objects and structures become artifacts for future generations.
